It was established in 2009-2010 under the name of the College of Computer Technology, then its name was changed to the College of Information Technology in 2012, as a result of the development of scientific curricula. It is one of the advanced colleges in the university in terms of infrastructure and laboratories. The college grants a bachelor's degree (computer science) according to the departments mentioned above. The college follows the course system. Postgraduate studies (Master - PhD) in the software department.

The College of Information Technology Organizes a Training Course in Basic Computer Skills for University of Babylon Staff Duhaa Fadill Abbas In direct collaboration with the Continuing Education Center at the Presidency of the University of Babylon, the College of Information Technology organized a specialized training course in basic computer skills. The course commenced on Monday, July 21, 2025, and continued for ten days, attracting participation from staff members representing various colleges and administrative units across the university. Held in Network Lab (4) at the college, the course was delivered under the supervision of Professor Dr. Al-Harith Abdul Kareem Abdullah, Head of the Department of Information Networks, and Ms. Nabras Abdul Redha. The program aimed to enhance the participants fundamental digital competencies, thereby contributing to improved administrative performance and greater efficiency in executing daily tasks using modern computer applications. The training addressed a wide range of theoretical and practical topics. Participants were introduced to the basics of computing, including the specifications of hardware devices and printers. Practical sessions covered the use of Microsoft Word for preparing official documents and PowerPoint for designing professional presentations. Additionally, the course included hands-on training in creating posters and converting files and images using modern internet tools, as well as managing data and creating spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel. Participants also learned how to utilize artificial intelligence tools to streamline routine office tasks. The course introduced core principles of cybersecurity to safeguard information and data, provided guidance on managing email communications and digital calendar tools, and explored the use of cloud storage services for organizing and securing digital files. Furthermore, it emphasized the development of intelligent search techniques for efficient online research. The course witnessed strong engagement from participants, particularly during the practical components, which allowed them to apply newly acquired skills in a well-equipped and supportive technical environment. This training initiative is part of a broader series of activities and courses implemented by the Continuing Education Center in collaboration with university colleges. It reflects the university’s commitment to enhancing staff capabilities and aligning administrative practices with the demands of digital transformation in higher education institutions.
